Activities

Blackwater Castle has an abundance of activities for you to enjoy from strolling along the banks of the River Awbeg which runs through the grounds to relaxing in the reception suites of the Castle itself. The Castle is situated on a protected Nature Reserve and home to endangered species such as the red squirrel. Otters, falcons, foxes, hedgehogs, bats, bumble bees, pheasants, eagles and peregrine falcons have all made their homes here and a woodland or river walk exploring all that nature has to offer here is a treat for young and old alike.

Blackwater Castle has a beautifully laid out Walled Garden and guests are welcome to savour the organic produce of the garden or simply to relax in its peaceful surrounds. Younger visitors in particular love our sandpit, swings and slides in the Walled Garden and are delighted by our Castle Maze which is a series of pathways cut through a section of our woodlands comprising native Irish species which is just perfect for a nature trail or a game of hide and seek.

Beagle hunting at the Castle
A Beagle Hunt detours through the Castle.

Those interested in history, architecture and archaelogy will be in seventh heaven with the richness of the heritage on site while there are lots of other activities on site or based in the locality for you to enjoy including adventure sports, fishing, motorbiking, mountain biking, golfing and hiking. Or how about a game of croquet on the castle lawn?
